Over the past several years I’ve had the good fortune of volunteering for Spectrum LGBT Center, serving my local community in the North Bay of the San Francisco Bay Area. Spectrum was founded in 1982 by Rev. Janie Spahr, a lesbian Presbyterian minister who is being prosecuted by her own church for marrying gay couples. It was Janie’s original work that started the Speaker’s Bureau that I participate in, providing outreach and support to LGBT youth.
I’ve also had the pleasure of working alongside Executive Director Paula Pilecki on many other projects for Spectrum. What an awesome organization to be a part of!
On November 10th, Spectrum will be celebrating their 30 years with a a fabulous party at the Mill Valley Community Center. ‘Pearlesque’ Honoring our Past, Celebrating Our Future, a fundraiser for Spectrum, will be the party of the year and is not to be missed. Put on your dancing shoes and join us!
