I’m super excited for the San Francisco October premiere of my eleventh solo comedy POUND at Brava Theater. It’s been a fantastic experience that began earlier this year in NYC. I was offered a commission to create and perform a new show for an edgy, sexually adventurous LGBT festival. I decided to develop a premise that lived in the back of my head for years: what if all the strange and desperate lesbian and quasi bisexual women characters from the ‘60s film The Children’s Hour to the ‘90s film Basic Instinct walked into a bar—and I was there too.

I portray about a dozen different ladies in addition to myself and my gay nephew Mikey. In a trippy wild journey I take the audience with me through the streets of San Francisco and to a “lesbian data cloud full of sexy extortionists, murderers and school teachers.†It’s great that younger lesbians aren’t exposed to the doom and gloom we had to sit through back in the day when half the lesbian movie characters died at the end. Now lesbian characters can live long and happy lives in prison. Basically POUND is a story about lesbian desire and how easily male dominated Hollywood got it wrong and how it impacted my sex life. When it premiered in New York in July I actually got a great review from the New York Times which called it “Hilariously skewed.†Even better was seeing this tweet from Tony Award winner Lisa Kron. “Saw lesbo comic SUPERSTAR genius Marga Gomez tonight. GO!!“Â
POUND runs for 19 performances from October 15th through November 15th, 2015 in The Studio at Brava Theater, 2781 24th street, SF – 10 minute walk from 24th street BART. Public Parking garage available 2500 24th Street (3 blocks from Brava)

Brava Theater presents the San Francisco premiere of POUND, GLAAD Award-winning writer/performer Marga Gomez’s surreal, sex-fueled solo tour-de-force comedy about movies and lesbian desire. When a mysterious gynecologist diagnoses her with “acute celibacy†Gomez fights to get her groove back, scouring dating sites, cruising ladies rooms, and transporting herself to a steamy lesbian data cloud where extortionists, showgirls, murderers and school teachers hook up in spectacularly meta ways.
