Lesbian Philanthropy in Palm Springs

Lesbian Philanthropy in Palm Springs

Do you know about the L-Fund?  It’s a Palm Springs based Lesbian philanthropy group that’s mission is to provide resources to lesbians in crisis, to empower lesbians through education, and to celebrate lesbians in community. The L-Fund empowers lesbians in the areas of education and financial assistance.

I got a call from the lovely Kate Ullman, Board Chair, last week. She told me her thoughts on the L-Fund. “It’s about believing that we are responsible for change, and together we can make a difference. It took 5 women sitting at a table, each putting in $20.00 per month. Before long, we had our first request for $150.00 and as community embraced this concept, we grew and continue to grow”

Barbara J. Carpenter. L-Fund Executive Director, states : “We are a compassionate Lesbian Philanthropic group, that respond by aiding Lesbians experiencing temporary financial crisis. We saw a real need in the community. We are proud to say that we have given thousands of dollars to our sisters for a one time financial crisis and our recently launched L-Fund Education Assistance Program (LEAP)! gives financial assistance for education to Lesbians in need. We are a 501( c )(3)non-profit and all donations are tax deductible. Our funding operates on values of trust, confidentiality, and integrity.”

How the L-Fund Came About:

In 2012, a group of friends asked themselves, “How can we positively impact the lives of Lesbians in our community?” In that moment, the L-Fund was born, acknowledging that Lesbians are underserved by many social service agencies and frequently do not have the same family support as heterosexual women. Our fund operates on values of trust, confidentiality, and integrity. We focus on serving Lesbians in the Coachella Valley, Palm Springs and surrounding cities, and including Moreno Valley, Joshua Tree, Yucca Valley and 29 Palms.
